最後一段話總結中國新一代考古學家的態度: 我們不在乎名稱(亦即否不否定商朝不是重點) 我們只希望(對古代世界)有更好的瞭解
台灣應該也沒人關心”夏”這個名稱適不適當吧 只是不知學校裡是怎麼教的 這點比較令人擔心

這篇文章的確是說傳統歷史所描述的夏朝不可信. 同一期的另一篇文章 Beyond the Yellow River: How China Became China 說近二十年出土的考古學資料顯示中國文化的起源不是單一的王朝, 而是許多散佈在各處的文化.
我覺得問題不在 “夏”, 而是在 “朝”. 若是我們把商朝以前的中國統一稱為 “夏”, 或是把商朝以前以黃何為中心的中國部落稱為 “夏”, 那的確無傷大雅. 但夏朝指的是傳統歷史寫的大禹治水這類的故事. Wikipedia 裡有關夏朝的介紹, 每個國王每一年做了什麼事都寫得清清楚楚. 這些都不應該出現在歷史裡.
